Terms of Use

These terms govern your use of Community Connect (the “site”), available at communityconnect.life. The site is operated by Community Connect Life CIC, a community interest company registered in England and Wales (company number 17444818), growing out of the community project started by CommUNIty. It is built in the spirit of Harmony and is not published by, endorsed by, or affiliated with The King’s Foundation. By using the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site.

What Community Connect is

Community Connect gathers information that is already published by public bodies and other organisations and presents it in one place for a given postcode: planning applications, green space, community groups, transport, health services, schools, heritage, local decisions and similar. It is an information service. It is not a source of professional, legal, financial, medical, planning or safety advice, and nothing on it should be relied on as such.

Reliance on information

We work to present information faithfully and to identify where each figure comes from, but we cannot guarantee that everything on the site is accurate, complete or up to date. Data reaches us from many sources on their own schedules, and it may be delayed, withdrawn or corrected at source after we have shown it.

Before you act on anything you find here, especially where a decision, a deadline, your safety, your money or your legal position depends on it, check the original source we identify and, where appropriate, take your own professional advice. Any reliance you place on the information is at your own risk.

Third-party links and data

The site draws on and links to third-party sources, including public bodies, open-data providers and other organisations. Those sources are responsible for their own content, accuracy and availability. A link or a data point does not mean we endorse, control or take responsibility for that third party, and we are not liable for anything on the sites or services they operate.

Contributions submitted by residents (events, groups, local history and similar) are the responsibility of the people who submit them. We moderate what is published but do not verify every detail, and we are not responsible for the accuracy of resident-submitted content.

Availability and errors

The site is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free from delay, and we may change, suspend or withdraw all or part of it at any time without notice. Some information is fetched live and may be temporarily unavailable if a source is down. We are not liable for the site being unavailable for any period.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Community Connect Life CIC and those involved in producing the site will not be liable for any loss or damage, whether in contract, tort (including negligence) or otherwise, arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the site or reliance on any information on it. This includes any indirect or consequential loss, and any loss of profit, revenue, data, goodwill or opportunity.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. Because the site is offered free of charge as a community project, the limitations above apply to the maximum extent the law allows.

Intellectual property

The design, layout, text we have written, branding and the arrangement of the site belong to Community Connect Life CIC or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property rights. You may view, print and share pages for your own personal, non-commercial use, and you may link to the site freely.

Much of the underlying information comes from public and open-data sources that carry their own licences and attribution requirements. Those rights remain with the original providers, and their data is used under the relevant licences. Where a source requires attribution, we show it. You must not present our content as your own, or use it in a way that breaches the underlying sources’ licences.

If you submit a contribution, you keep ownership of it but grant us a licence to publish, display and share it on the site as part of Community Connect. You confirm that you are entitled to submit it and that doing so does not infringe anyone else’s rights.

Data sources and attribution

Community Connect is built from public, open and community sources. On the site, each figure names the source it came from beside it. This is the full list, with the licences and attributions under which the information is used. Where a licence requires a particular attribution, it is kept alongside the data wherever it appears on the site as well as here.

Public sector information

Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0, from:

  • Postcodes.io and the Office for National Statistics (postcode lookup, wards, councils, constituencies; Census 2021)
  • data.police.uk (street-level recorded crime, published monthly, around two months behind)
  • Environment Agency (flood alerts and warnings; bathing water classifications)
  • Department for Transport: STATS19 road collisions; NaPTAN bus stops; Bus Open Data Service live tracking
  • Department for Education, Get Information About Schools, with Ofsted reports
  • Care Quality Commission register and inspection ratings
  • Historic England, National Heritage List for England
  • planning.data.gov.uk (conservation areas; protected nature sites from Natural England and others)
  • HM Land Registry Price Paid Data
  • Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (council tax levels)
  • UK Parliament Members API (your MP)
  • BCP Council and other local authorities’ own published pages and petitions

Defibrillators

Defibrillator locations come from The Circuit, the national defibrillator network, used with the written permission of the British Heart Foundation and supplemented by OpenStreetMap. Attribution: Source: British Heart Foundation. The British Heart Foundation does not endorse this site. Access type (public or restricted) is always shown, and the data is a periodic snapshot rather than live.

Weather, air, pollen and tides

Air quality, pollen, UV, temperature and tidal sea level are modelled by Open-Meteo (CC BY 4.0), drawing on the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS). These are model outputs for the area, not readings from your street.

Other sources

  • PlanIt, which collects planning applications from council planning portals, on a delay
  • Storm overflow status from water companies via the Storm Overflow Hub, and The Rivers Trust
  • Hosepipe restrictions as announced by Bournemouth Water, Wessex Water and South West Water
  • Events, groups, organisations and local history added by residents and local organisations, and groups’ own published calendars, all moderated before publishing (see the Submission Terms)

Links to outside services such as the UKHO tide tables or the Met Office are provided for convenience; their content is theirs.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the site for any unlawful, fraudulent or harmful purpose;
  • submit content that is false, misleading, defamatory, offensive, or that infringes anyone else’s rights or privacy;
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, its servers or any connected system, or interfere with its normal operation;
  • place an unreasonable load on the site, or scrape, harvest or re-use data in a way that breaches these terms or the underlying sources’ licences;
  • introduce viruses or other malicious code, or use the site to distribute them; or
  • use the information to identify, target, harass or cause harm to any individual.

We may remove content or restrict access where we reasonably believe these terms have been broken.

Correcting or removing content

If you believe something on the site is wrong, out of date, or should be taken down, you can ask us to correct or remove it. This applies to resident submissions, photographs, organisation and charity listings, local stories, and information drawn from other sources.

There are two ways to ask:

To help us act quickly, please tell us which page or listing it is (a link if you can), what is wrong or why it should be removed, and whether you are the person or organisation it concerns, the rights holder (for example the photographer), or the person who submitted it. Owners and subjects of content, rights holders, and anyone who submitted material may all ask for a correction or removal.

We aim to review requests promptly and will correct or remove content where appropriate, prioritising anything raising a safety, privacy or legal concern. Where the information comes from a third-party or open-data source, the authoritative copy is theirs, so we may also point you to the original publisher, as correcting it at source is often the lasting fix. After removal, copies may remain in backups for a period, and we cannot recall anything others have already shared.

This process is in addition to your data-protection rights over your own personal information, which are set out in our Privacy Notice.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The current version is always the one published on this page, with the date it was last updated shown at the top. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any dispute relating to them or to your use of the site is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
